How Meadowsweet Heating & Air Was Born

We started Meadowsweet Heating & Air in 2004, but the real beginning happened a year earlier in Los Angeles. I was on a call for a family whose furnace had quit in the middle of a January cold snap. They had two kids bundled in blankets on the couch. The system was only six years old. The invoice they showed me from another company was for work that never got done. They’d paid for a blower motor replacement that still had the factory seal on it. I remember the mother’s voice when she asked if I could fix it that day because they’d already spent their emergency fund. We got it running by that evening. What stuck with me wasn’t the repair itself. It was how that family had been treated: charged for phantom parts, left in a cold house, made to feel like they were the problem for asking questions. That night changed the direction of everything. We didn’t just want to fix heating and cooling equipment. We wanted to build something where a written price comes before any work starts, where the house is left cleaner than we found it, and where a homeowner never has to wonder if they’re being lied to. The idea grew from that one living room in Los Angeles into a network of independently owned locations across the country. The founding principle stayed the same: treat every home like a neighbor’s home.

Luis Serrano’s Personal Connection to the HVAC Trade

Long before there was a company, there was a teenage kid in a hot apartment with a window unit that kept tripping the breaker. I was that kid. We didn’t have money for a service call, so I took the front panel off and started looking. It smelled like dust and warm electrical. I found a capacitor that had swollen like an overripe lemon, walked two miles to a supply house, and talked the guy at the counter into selling me a replacement with money I’d saved from mowing lawns. I put it in myself. The moment that compressor kicked on and cold air came out, something clicked in me that has never gone quiet. That feeling of taking something broken, understanding it, and making it work again. It felt like solving a puzzle that mattered because it made life better for the people in the home. I spent the years after that learning from every tradesman who would let me watch. Some were patient, some were not. I learned from both. I worked crawl spaces that filled with cobwebs and rooftops in August heat. I learned what happens when you rush an installation and what happens when you actually care about the torque sequence on a flare fitting. What keeps me in this trade more than twenty years later is not the equipment. It’s the moment a parent hears the heat click on in the middle of the night and the house gets quiet again. If I weren’t doing this, I’d probably be teaching. There’s something about passing on a skill that I still get to do every time someone on the team learns how to do a job the careful way.

Meet Luis Serrano - The Person Behind Every Job

Luis Serrano is the Owner and Founder of Meadowsweet Heating & Air. He’s spent two decades in residential heating and cooling, working on furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, ductwork, and indoor air quality systems in homes of every age and size. He trained under seasoned tradesmen who emphasized the same values he still operates by: a clean work site, a straight answer, and a system that works correctly the first time. What sets Luis apart from a technician at a big franchise isn’t a slogan. It’s the way he thinks about the job. He treats a service call like he’s walking into his own sister’s house. He wants the price clear before the work begins, the floor protected, the kids and pets safe, and the homeowner to understand exactly what was done and why. Outside of work, Luis is meticulous about the small things. He keeps a workshop organized, sharpens his own tools, and has been known to save a perfectly good part from the scrap pile because it might help someone someday. His commitment to customers is simple: he will never leave a home without explaining what happened, what it cost, and what happens next.

Our Promise to Homeowners

Every Meadowsweet Heating & Air location works by a code we call C.A.R.E. It’s not a poster on a wall. It’s the standard we hold every job to. Clean up like it’s our own home. That means shoe covers and drop cloths on every job, and a photo of the clean-up before we leave. Ask before we move or touch anything. Your furniture, your belongings, your space. We don’t assume anything. Respect the family’s time and quiet hours. Quiet tools when the kids are asleep, and a clear arrival window so you’re not waiting around. Explain the price before the work. Every job gets a written price before any work starts, so there are no surprises when the final invoice arrives. These aren’t marketing promises. They’re the behaviors we built this company on, and they’re the reason people tell their neighbors about us.

Our Credentials

Every tradesperson working under the Meadowsweet Heating & Air name is required to hold the licensing their state mandates for HVAC work and to carry the insurance coverage required in their area. That’s a standard we don’t bend on. It matters to homeowners because the person working on your gas furnace or your electrical connections should be qualified to do that work and protected if something goes wrong.

  • State-licensed in every market we serve, per local requirements.
  • Insured and bonded status required for every location in the network.
  • Over two decades of lived trade experience leading the company since 2004.
  • Written price before every job, backed by The Cedarwell Care Promise.

Licensing and insurance aren’t optional extras. They’re the difference between a professional who stands behind their work and a gamble. When someone comes into your home to work on a system that heats your air or cools your children’s bedrooms, you deserve proof they’re qualified. We hold that standard across every location, in every state. It’s the baseline, not the ceiling.

Rooted in the Communities We Serve

Meadowsweet Heating & Air grew from a single Los Angeles founding story into a network of independently owned locations serving families across cities like Houston, Philadelphia, San Antonio, San Diego, Dallas, Jacksonville, Austin, and beyond. Each local team is made up of people who live and work in the area they serve. They raise kids there, walk dogs in the same neighborhoods, and shop at the same grocery stores. The name Meadowsweet comes from a wildflower that was once strewn on floors to keep rooms fresh. We try to leave every home that way: clean, fresh, and a little better than when we arrived.
